Just over a week ago I wrote about marketing under Marketing and the wisdom of Theodore Levitt and Peter Drucker. The blog was short but, if you read it and ventured to download the classic article Marketing Myopia by Theodore Levitt, at 14 pages it is a long read. Yet, if you in fact did read all 14 pages and are looking for a twenty-five-words-or-less summary, I would offer these:
- Make what you can sell; not sell what you are able to make – Author unknown
- The goal of marketing is to create a product that sells, not to sell a product – Alexander Chernev
If you truly understand the distinction, and are blessed with an ability to execute, you will surely be able to raise capital and run a successful business.

Hey Michael,
“Marketing is actually telling the world you’re a rock star.”
You have very well described the marketing and its goal. I have been working in marketing for past 11 years, I don’t consider myself an expert because there is still so much to learn in marketing. Marketing ideas are born every day and it makes for an exciting career, I am known for my skills in SEO, Paid advertising, and PR.
Gaining more leads and customers is a primary objective of most businesses. Without generating new leads and customers, your business will never grow beyond what it is now. You need to bring in new blood in order to scale your business.
Your brand has a unique personality, just like you! Amplify it to increase brand awareness. Another strategy around this goal is to consider the places where your target buyers spend the most time. Maybe try a social media strategy to get a platform to engage with your target audience.
You can achieve your social media goals by:
– Posting about your company culture
– Sharing interesting industry-related articles
– Or conducting polls to connect with your audience
